As you may know, Emotional Intelligence (EI) has been determined to be the primary differentiator between average performers and star performers. This is particularly true of physicians and other professionals who must have higher than average intellectual capacity to be admitted to medical school. When IQ is above a certain level, EI becomes the differentiator that separates the best from the rest!
Emotional Intelligence competencies fall into four domains:
- Self-awareness
- Self-management
- Social awareness
- Relationship management
Just as high EI is the differentiator for star performers, lack of EI is one of the most common derailers for would be leaders. It may also be one of the underlying issues that lead to the disruptive behavior of troubled physicians.
I am currently testing a new assessment tool that should give physician leaders and other health care professionals new insights into which EI competencies are most important in their current roles and how they can develop these critical competencies to enhance performance. The tool may also prove useful in helping troubled physicians pinpoint areas for development.
The assessment takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. If you would like to participate in my research, please click here to take the free assessment. Thanks in advance for your interest and your help!
